Where to Make New Friends in Your New Neighborhood

As exciting as long distance moving can be, it can also be a little lonely. Even if you are only moving a few cities away, you may quickly miss calling that person who is always ready to go for a run in the morning or grab a beer after work. So, you may be trying to figure out where you can make some friends in the new neighborhood. Well, below are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Join a Gym – If you love working out, then you might as well meet others who do, as well. You do not have to necessarily join a gym though. You can sign up for a yoga, Zumba, kickboxing, dance, or Pilates class, if you prefer.

  • Volunteering – There are likely plenty of nonprofits in your area looking for help. Volunteering will help you meet people, and you will feel good donating your time.

  • Group Activities – If you enjoy painting, knitting, cooking, reading, or nearly any other popular activity, there are groups, clubs, and classes you can join. It is always ideal when you meet people with similar interests.

  • Park or Beach – Love spending time outdoors? Whether you love mountain biking or soaking up the sun, outdoor environments are always easy places to meet people.

  • Meetup.com – There are tons of thousands of people all over the country who use meetup.com. Find a group that interests you and show up to the next scheduled meet. Nothing catch your eye on the site? Start your own meet up!

  • Happy Hour – Enjoying a couple of drinks during happy hour at the happening place to be is by far one of the easiest and fastest ways to make friends in your new neighborhood. You might as well ask your movers. They should be able to tell you the best place to go any day of the week.
